Soaking
Soaking awakens nuts, seeds and grains from their dormant state. As they begin a new life, the energy and vitality is increased in them. Soaking removes their enzyme inhibitors - this is the protective shield, which Mother Nature has placed around them to prevent them from rowing until they have found a place in the earth and a source of water. Removing these inhibitors releases the enzymes contained within them, which they need to grow, which are also the same ones our body uses to digest them. Make sure to rinse well after soaking, as the soak water will still contain these enzyme inhibitors, which are toxic, very acidic and which will neutralize our body's own store of enzymes.
Soaking provides many other benefits:
- Seeds, nuts and grains now become a 'live' food. Kirlian photographs taken before and after soaking will clearly show this - with the soaked seed having a bright aura around it, the dormant seed has none.
- Soaking removes oxylates and phytates - substances found in the bran of all seeds and grains, which inhibits the absorption of minerals, incl. calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc. They keep the minerals 'locked up'. Soaking makes these minerals, not only more available and accessible, but more easily absorbed by the body.
- Soaking increases the vitamin content - especially Vit. C, Vit. B, and carotenes (pre-Vit. A).
- Soaking breaks down fats into fatty acids, turns starches back into simple sugars, and breaks proteins down into amino acids, making digestion much easier.
- Soaking makes nuts and seeds more alkaline.
- Soaking reduces calories.
General guidelines:
- Use purified room temp water to soak.
- Soak small seeds and grains, ie. Sesame and amaranth - 3-6 hours
- Soak hulled seeds, ie. Pumpkin and sunflower - 4-8 hours
- Soak larger nuts, grains or beans, ie. Almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts - 8-12 hours
- Rinse well after soaking.
- Almonds can be soaked longer. To have them readily available - rinse and place in a glass jar in the fridge. Leave them without a lid, so they can breathe. They can be left in the refrigerator for 7-10 days. Rinse daily, as they are alive and produce waste, which will get in the water. Fill bottle with water again after and return to fridge.
- Seeds and grains can continue to be germinated and sprouted.
